Chemiphase have an extensive range of foam control agents and defoamers. Including water immiscible, water dispersible, water based, and concentrates. Mineral oil, silicone, natural organic, and synthetic organic.

A defoamer or anti-foaming agent is a chemical designed to control the wasteful formation of foam during industrial processes. Anti-foams may be required for a number of reasons; process speed reduction, unsightly, or negative impact on working conditions.  For more information on our defoamer range please contact us.

Boiler antifoam chemicals, also known as boiler defoamers or antifoaming agents, are chemical additives used in steam boilers to prevent or control foam formation. In a steam boiler, water is heated to produce steam, and during this process, small bubbles of air or gases can form in the water. These bubbles can accumulate and create foam on the surface, leading to operational issues and decreased boiler efficiency.

Boiler foam can have several adverse effects:
  1. Reduced heat transfer: Foam acts as an insulating layer, reducing the efficiency of heat transfer from the combustion gases to the water. This can result in higher fuel consumption and increased operating costs.

  2. Corrosion: Foam can carry corrosive substances and deposit them on the metal surfaces inside the boiler, promoting corrosion and potential damage to the system.

  3. Water level fluctuations: Foam can cause inaccurate water level readings, leading to potential safety hazards.

Boiler antifoam chemicals work by destabilizing and breaking down the foam bubbles, allowing them to collapse and release any entrapped gases. These antifoaming agents are usually formulated with surface-active substances, also known as surfactants. Surfactants have hydrophobic (water-repelling) and hydrophilic (water-attracting) parts, which allow them to interact with the air-water interface, disrupting foam formation.

The antifoam chemicals are dosed into the boiler water through a suitable injection point, such as a chemical dosing pump or a chemical feed system. They are usually used in small amounts, as excessive usage can lead to other operational issues or affect the boiler water chemistry.

It is essential to use the right type and amount of antifoam chemical, as different boiler systems may require specific formulations. Improper usage or the use of incompatible chemicals may result in adverse effects on the boiler's performance, water quality, and safety.

Furthermore, the selection of antifoam chemicals should consider their impact on the boiler's overall water treatment program, as they may interact with other chemicals in the system. As with any chemical additive, it is crucial to follow the manufacturer's guidelines and consult with water treatment professionals to ensure safe and effective boiler operation.
