Corroflux™ Scale & Corrosion

Corroflux™ Oilfield Corrosion Inhibitors Range are corrosion inhibitor oil that control the corrosion in oil & water systems and ensure protection from acidic species. The Oilfield Corrosion Inhibitors oil field equipment range provides excellent filming properties over a broad pH range.  Fore more technical information on our oilfield corrosion inhibitors please contact us directly.

Part of this range is Scaleflux™ which are our Oilfield Scale Inhibitor Range as well as Oxyflux™ which are our Oxygen Scavengers designed for oilfield applications.

Determining the correct product

Oilfield corrosion inhibitors are chemicals used in the oil and gas industry to protect metal equipment and infrastructure from corrosion. Corrosion is a major problem in the oilfield industry, as metal equipment and pipelines are constantly exposed to harsh environments, including high temperatures, pressure, and corrosive substances such as saltwater and acidic gases.

Corrosion inhibitors work by forming a protective layer on the metal surface, which prevents corrosive substances from coming into contact with the metal. There are several types of oilfield corrosion inhibitors, including:

  1. Film-forming inhibitors: These inhibitors form a protective film on the metal surface, which acts as a barrier to prevent corrosive substances from penetrating the metal.

  2. Volatile corrosion inhibitors (VCI): These inhibitors release a vapor that forms a protective layer on the metal surface. VCIs are commonly used in storage tanks and pipelines.

  3. Cathodic inhibitors: These inhibitors work by changing the electrochemical properties of the metal surface, making it less likely to corrode. Cathodic inhibitors are commonly used in pipelines and other metal structures.

  4. Oxygen scavengers: These inhibitors remove oxygen from the environment, which can slow down or prevent the corrosion process.

The specific type of corrosion inhibitor used will depend on the type of metal being protected, the specific corrosive substances present, and the environmental conditions in the oilfield. Corrosion inhibitors are typically added to the fluid that is used to transport oil and gas through pipelines and other equipment, or they may be applied directly to the metal surface in the form of a spray or coating.

Overall, oilfield corrosion inhibitors are an essential component of the oil and gas industry, helping to protect expensive equipment and infrastructure from the damaging effects of corrosion.

The extraction of gas and oil from and well is more often than not accompanied by water, either from formation, condensation or water injection. Acidic gases are present in the produced fluids and along with a high level of O2 act to increase the corrosivity of the water to steel. This corrosive action is further complicated by the flow regime, temperature differences along a pipeline and pressure changes which can all add up to not only effect the corrosivity level, but also the corrosivity mechanisms.
Corrosion problems can vary from site to site due to variances in components such as oilfield brine, operating temperatures, hydrocarbon composition to name but a few.
