Site : Bradford City Council - Canal Road, Bradford
Contract Value : £1.25m total - (Chemiphase £350K)
Requirements
The area of land to be treated is near the centre of Bradford and is a disused Gas site. The coal tar produced from the production process has been stored in underground pits, which have subsequently flooded with water. The land requires de-contamination in order that the central ring road may be completed.
Chemiphase Process
Chemiphase have designed a plant and developed a chemical extraction process for treatment of the contaminated water and subsequent removal of the tar. The treated water will be discharge from the site into an adjacent sewer and the tar will be removed from the site for disposal.
The tar wells have been decontaminated by Chemiphasse and then backfilled.
Results
Both treatment phases proved to be successful and the land has been designated for commercial development in the near future.
